LAOISEACH MCGARRY
WHISTLE
Laoiseach started her musical journey as a student with the vibrant Dunloy Comhaltas, which has produced musicians such as Damian McKee, Beoga member. Dunloy in the 1980s had a vibrant traditional scene which inspired Laoiseach to continue her path to playing traditional music. She is a multi-instrumentalist playing, flute, whistles, fiddle and mandolin. Laoiseach has been teaching and playing in the local area on a regular basis for twenty years. She currently tutors in Limavady Comhaltas, Ballerin GAC, Gaelscoil Limavady and more recently in St Mary’s Primary School in Clady. Laosieach is a founder member of the band Tippin it Up which offers an eclectic mix of folk and traditional music. The band can be found gigging all over the north of Ireland in different venues and festivals. As a key member of the Causeway Sessions, Laoiseach is collaborating with musicians as Dee Havlin, Heather Montgomery and more recently Sorcha Meehan. Regular playing with the McMullan family based in Portstewart has also influenced her style. Her playing packs a punch and her repertoire encompasses both modern and traditional repertoire. Her more recent appearances include; Trad ar an Trá, The Whiskey and Salmon Festival, and The Open Golf Championship. North Coast Trad is delighted to have Laoiseach as our whistle tutor!
