Lucy Kerr
Lucy began playing the harp at the age of 10 and subsequently went on to play with the Grammy Award Winning Belfast Harp Orchestra and then the Irish Harp Orchestra. She has had many television and radio appearances and has featured on various recordings, both as a solo artist and with several groups. In 2007 she was commissioned to compose a piece of music for the television series, Our Wee World, performing the piece with pupils from her harp school. She has toured Europe on several occasions, playing in venues such as the Munich and Koln Philharmonic Halls and Amsterdamn’s Music Theatre. In 2009 she was invited to perform as a solo guest artist at a sold-out concert in the Waterfront Hall. She has performed alongside Lesley Garrett, Brian Kennedy and Sir James Galway, to name but a few, and has performed for The Price of Wales and Irish Presidents, Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese. Over the years she has won many harp competitions, culminating in 2006 with the All-Ireland Senior Harp Championship at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Letterkenny.
Lucy graduated from Queen’s University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music degree, and from the University of Ulster with a PGCE in 2010. She has taught across several music schools over the last 20 years and has facilitated a variety of harp workshops. She has been Head of Music in Limavady High School since 2011.
Lucy has recently been playing regularly in the Causeway Trad sessions on the North Coast, while performing with local band Brí, alongside Deidre Havlin, Heather Montgomery and David Dunlop.
Lucy is delighted to be joining North Coast Trad.
